Corner Brook Profile

The sub-zone of Corner Brook is the only sub-zone to encompass only one community.

Corner Brook is the only city located in Zone 8 and is one of three cities in the entire province. With the largest community population in the zone with 20,083 residents, it is the most urban centre of the zone.

Corner Brook is the hub for service, retail, medical and distribution activity for western Newfoundland. There are a number of large employers in the city; Western Health being the largest. Corner Brook Pulp and Paper mill is another large employer. The city is fortunate to have a number of distinctive post-secondary educational institutions: Sir Wilfred Grenfell College (the west coast campus of Memorial University), College of the North Atlantic and Academy Canada. All schools have accredited programs and courses adapted to the meet the needs of local and international industries.

Aside from the modern day and retail conveniences of the city, Corner Brook boasts beautiful and scenic walking trails which wind in and around the city and also overlook the beautiful Bay of Islands. There is much culture and heritage captured in Corner Brook, recorded and displayed in the museum and archives.
