Corner Brook Profile
The sub-zone of Corner Brook is the only sub-zone to encompass only one community.
Corner Brook is the only city located in Zone 8 and is one of three cities in the entire
province. With the largest community population in the zone with 20,083 residents, it is
the most urban centre of the zone.
Corner Brook is the hub for service, retail, medical and distribution activity for western
Newfoundland. There are a number of large employers in the city; Western Health
being the largest. Corner Brook Pulp and Paper mill is another large employer.
The city is fortunate to have a number of distinctive post-secondary educational
institutions: Sir Wilfred Grenfell College (the west coast campus of Memorial
University), College of the North Atlantic and Academy Canada. All schools have
accredited programs and courses adapted to the meet the needs of local and
international industries.
Aside from the modern day and retail conveniences of the city, Corner Brook boasts
beautiful and scenic walking trails which wind in and around the city and also overlook
the beautiful Bay of Islands. There is much culture and heritage captured in Corner
Brook, recorded and displayed in the museum and archives. |
