Humber Valley Profile

Centrally located in Economic Zone 8, the Humber Valley sub-zone has a population of approximately 10,334 people and includes the communities of:

  • Steady Brook,
  • Little Rapids,
  • Pasadena,
  • Pynn’s Brook,
  • St. Jude’s,
  • Deer Lake,
  • Reidville,
  • Cormack and
  • Howley.

Humber Valley is unique in its composition, as it encompasses a larger variety
of economic structures. Forestry, agrifoods, service and tourism industries are
the predominant drivers in the region. The main reason for this could be that Humber
Valley communities are not settled immediately on an oceanfront; therefore, marine
industries are not as prevalent.

In recent years, adventure tourism has been a large attraction to the region. With the availability of such activities as downhill and cross-country ski parks, hiking and sightseeing trails, snowmobile trails, river cruising and rafting, horseback riding, to name a few, Humber Valley is an ideal location for nature lovers and adventure seekers.

The Deer Lake Regional Airport is located in the Humber Valley sub-zone at Deer Lake. This airport has seen a large increase in aircraft and passenger traffic recently, including the addition of a direct international flight to the United Kingdom.
