White Bay South Profile




The sub-zone of White Bay South is located on the eastern base of the northern peninsula. Located on Route 420 of the provincial highway system, this sub-zone has a population of approximately 1,589 people and includes the communities of:

  • Hampden,
  • Beaches,
  • Pollard’s Point,
  • Sop’s Arm and
  • Jackson’s Arm.

White Bay South is a nature lover’s dream with rugged coastline and tree filled scenery. The region is home to Main River, the first river in this province to be designated under the Canadian Heritage River System. Hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, canoeing, adventure tourism, bird watching and kayaking are just a few of the popular attractions to the sub-zone.

The forestry and fishing industries are large economic drivers in White Bay South. There is a crab and shrimp plant, as well as an integrated saw mill located in the region which provides full-time and seasonal employment to residents.
