Massey Drive
The Town of Massey Drive first began as a Bowater’s woods road, which was used for
hauling timber to their paper mill. Bowater’s decided to build a ski cabin further along
this road causing this stretch of road to be named Ski Cabin Road. This road later
became known as Horseshoe Bend. In the late 1930’s, this name changed to “Massey
Drive” in order to honour the then Governor General of Canada, Vincent Massey.
From the early 1930’s to the late
1960’s, there was no water, sewer,
street lights, etc. The early settlers
were forced to use outhouses and
wood stoves for heat and cooking.
Today, the Town of Massey Drive has
experienced tremendous growth in
the residential sector. This town has
experienced growth of 51.9% since
2001. The town has seen the reality
of Targett Drive, Link Pond Estates
subdivisions being developed in the
area. The town’s uniqueness of
country living and community togetherness plays an important role in the growth
experienced today. |
