Irishtown - Summerside

Next on your trip down Sir Palliser’s Trail, approximately 34 km from the City of Corner Brook, is the shoreline community of Irishtown-Summerside, snuggled in the foothills of the Long Range Mountains.

Initially, this community was two separate communities; Irishtown and Summerside. The community name of Irishtown, according to
local tradition, reflects the ethnic background of early settlers. Irishtown’s
first settlers were predominantly Roman Catholic. The denominational make-up
has remained much the same, except for the arrival of a small group of Salvation Army adherents.

In January of 1991, the municipalities of Irishtown and Summerside were amalgamated to form what is now known as the Town of Irishtown-Summerside.
