Cormack

The Town of Cormack is located 7 km north of Deer Lake on the Viking Trail
( Route 430).

The Newfoundland Commission of Government first founded Cormack as the Upper Humber Land Settlement for veterans from World War II. In 1948, the
community was renamed Cormack after the well-known explorer and natural historian, William Epps Cormack.

Settlers quickly organized to start up a school, establish a farmer’s association, and a farmer’s co-operative. The Community of Cormack was incorporated in 1964.

Today, Cormack is predominantly involved in the dairy industry, but its diversity has contributed to its success and sustainability as a major agricultural producer in the region.
