Businesses - need Fall Protection Certification??
Good news...The College of the North Atlantic (Corner Brook campus) just received approval from WHSCC to deliver the Fall Protection curriculum on the west coast. They are the only company or institution to have that approval outside of St. John's. This si a requirement for workers in many industries and will reduce the long waittime frmerly experienced by companies needing this certification. Spring/Summer Tourism Info Session
On May 10, 2012 HEDB, along with its partners GCBBT, City of Corner Brook, Western DMO and the Downtown Business Association, hosted a Tourism Information session. There were 45 attendees from various businesses and organizations who shared info on what they have happening in the coming months. They were also informed about the upcoming Cruise Ship session that will be held on May 31st (check here for more details). Feedback was positive and the sessions will continue in future. |
Business Improvement Program
The City of Corner Brook is once again accepting applications for a tax credit for businesses who want to improve the front facade or landscaping at their place of business to a maximum of $10,000. Please go to www.cornerbrook.com and click on the "Apply for Business Improvement Program" on the right of the screen. |
BizPal: new communities added
Looking to start a business and unsure of what permits are needed or what the regulations are for a particular municipality? BizPal can help. It is an online tool that provides you with just that information when you input the municipality you are interested in working in. They just added 12 new municipalities, including Deer Lake, Cormack, Pasadena, and Humber Arm South. Go to: www.gov.nl.ca and click on "BizPal" on the right to use this very useful tool. |
Youth Ventures started again
Youth Ventures is once again up and running to assist youth in this area with starting and running a small business. Sherry Bombick is the coordinator in the Corner Brook area and Melanie Bingle is the coordinator in the Deer Lake area. They can help students do business planning, market research, business start-up and even apply for small loans. Contact the local CBDC office for more information. |
